Southern Heights is one of the first fine subdivisions developed for African-Americans in Louisiana. Key documentation of the subdivision includes its tract filings from 1943 – 1953 and Its governing documents – Articles of Incorporation for Southern Heights, Tract filing maps (3) and Covenant, Codes & Restrictions.
The Articles of Incorporation established the subdivision and the governance and structure for its development.
Covenants, Codes & Restrictions (CCRs), rules and regulations tied to the land, were implemened with each tract filing (map of lots) from 1943 to 1953. The rules and regulations established in 1943-1953 for Southern Heights are in effect today.
In 2020, SHPOA Officers realized that our CCRs were in need of review and update. This process was undertaken and a draft of Revised CCRs was developed and released to the Policy & Procedures Committee in 2022.
Next Steps for the Covenant, Codes & Restrictions (CCRs) Revisions (Draft)
The Policy & Procedures Committee, chaired by the SHPOA Vice-President, is responsible for reviewing the draft, soliciting comments for SH residents, and developing a recommended CCR document for SH resident review and approval.
