Crime Prevention Tips

HELP PREVENT CRIME BY FOLLOWING THESE CRIME PREVENTION TIPS

MOVE IT  –  DO NOT tarry and BE ALERT in your driveway/carport when getting in or out of your car/home. Get out of the car and get in the house. Not doing so means you are distracted, vulnerable and less aware of activities around you.

LIGHT IT  –   Leave exterior residence lights on at night or utilize motion detecting lights.  Avoid giving criminals a dark place to hide on your property. It makes it easier for neighbors and police to spot unusual or nefarious activity.

TRIM IT – Trim or remove shrubs or trees that cover your windows. DO NOT give criminals a place to hide.

REMOVE IT  –  Don’t keep anything valuable or otherwise (including spare keys and garage openers) in your car

LOCK IT  –  Ensure your car doors and all doors to your residence are kept locked.

HIDE IT  –  Keep valuables in your garage, car, and home out of sight.

CLOSE IT  –  Keep your garage door closed and double check it’s closed at night.

REPORT IT  –  Report all crime and suspicious activity immediately to the police by calling 911, 225-389-2000 or 225-389-3033 (District 4).

See our Crime Reporting – Better Practices Tips for more information on effective ways to report crime or suspicious activity.

Create the police report & get the file number. Provide videos but do not delay reporting a crime, if the video is not immediately available. Videos can be provided later.

Remember to use the Southern Heights Safety/Crime Submission form to report crimes or suspicious activity to the SHNCPID and the SHNCPID Patrols.
